Framework Integration for Better IT Governance and Management

It is common to see IT professionals with doubts about the use of guidelines from a framework and a possible collision between different methods of operation in the sector. In this article, we’ll get to learn all about framework integration.

We have examples of Frameworks such as ITIL, which is about Information Management, and CobiT, which is a framework focused on IT Governance that is explored in the ITMP certification. To achieve integration, a global view, and coherence between different management domains and processes, the principle of CNIP (Co-operation when Necessary, Independent Operation when Possible) can be used: “Cooperation when Necessary, Independent Operation when Possible.”

See below some examples of framework integration:

Integration between ITIL and CobiT

These frameworks can be used together to improve three specific aspects of IT governance, which are compliance, performance, and responsibility reporting.

While ITIL focuses on the effectiveness and efficiency of service quality management processes, CobiT focuses on risk compliance.

Integration of ITIL and Six Sigma

These frameworks can be integrated with the aim of improving the quality and organization of processes and services. While ITIL covers the process domain, Six Sigma focuses on method improvement.

Integration of ITIL and CMMI

CMMI has a strong focus on the development of (new) services, while ITIL focuses on managing the seamless integration of these new services into daily operations. The goal of CMMI and ITIL is to define and describe changes in process management, which is essential as it provides an interface with the outside world. The focus of integration between CMMI and ITIL should be on improvement within development and operations teams, as well as cooperation between the two teams.

With this, you already know. Integration is possible even with very different frameworks. However, it requires study and the need for wisdom in its application so that important company processes are not weakened.
